Sports Drive Scholarship Program

At the second Santa Barbara Sports Drive event, we implemented a new program that allows kids who attend the event to join the boys and girls club while there. We did, however, encounter one problem.. this was that many of the kids who attend the Sports Drive, come from low income families who simply do not have the means to pay for their kids’ memberships.

Our solution was to establish the  Sports Drive Scholarship Program. This program allows people to donate money instead of, or in addition to sports equipment. All donations to the Scholarship Program are made directly to the Boys and Girls Club and can be made through our website link. This option enables families who want to donate to the Drive, but simply didn’t have any equipment that they want to give away, to have a chance to contribute to the Sports Drive in a meaningful way. In addition, many people who donated equipment also wanted to help kids join the Boys and Girls Club and made contributions to the Boys and Girls Club that were assigned to the Sports Drive Scholarship Program.

This an important year-round program that is not tied specifically to the time of the Sports Drive Event.

100% of the money donated went straight to the Sports Drive Scholarship Fund, which was given away in the form of fully paid, 1 year memberships to the Boys and Girls Club to kids in need of a safe place to be 6 days a week.

What is truly amazing, however, is that we were able to provide one kid with a 1 year membership to the Boys and Girls Club for only $20. This allowed us to greatly increase the membership at the Boys and Girls Clubs, as well as to take countless kids away from danger on the streets, and into a nurturing environment that fosters their academic success and provides fun athletic and recreational opportunities.

Please let your schools know that in addition to donating sports equipment to the Sports Drive, they can give children the gift of an annual membership to the Boys and Girls Club for just $20 per child.
